One week in Iloilo, listening and preparing.
In August 2026, Maribeth de Montaigne spent one week in Iloilo visiting schools and speaking with the people who will help shape and oversee the first phase.
The visit included discussions with barangay representatives and the Mayor of Mina about the outline of the programme. The first stage will work with five barangays at a time. Their names will be added to the public record once the current local sign-off is complete.
The immediate focus is educational: essential school materials distributed directly to children, together with a planned solar battery-backup and inverter system and three laptops for each participating barangay.
The aim is to agree what is genuinely needed, who will look after it and how it will reach the children for whom it is intended.

What the visit established
A practical basis for fundraising and implementation.
The August discussions confirmed the programme’s outline while leaving the final barangay names and detailed equipment stewardship arrangements to the current sign-off process.
No public claim is made that equipment has already been delivered. The first phase is planned for October 2026, and fundraising for it is open.

The wider programme
Education first; farmer support later.
School Aid’s immediate Philippines work is the same practical school-support mission developed in Morocco: useful materials, equipment and power for learning, delivered through trusted local relationships.
A possible biochar-distribution stage for farming families is a separate, future proposal from mid-2027, subject to funding, approval and arm’s-length procurement at market price. It is not presented as work already delivered.
